Managing databases

Efficy Designer

Click the button Database Management in the Efficy Designer toolbar.


This section is where you manage your Efficy database.

upgrading the current databasecreating new databases (getting the details) – creating child databases (getting the details) – copying databases (getting the details) – license management (getting the details) – database storage (getting the details)

Upgrading the database

Upgrades your database to the latest available database structure. (Only the database owner can do this.)

We recommend to create a backup of the database before you upgrade it.


In fact, the Designer software may prompt you to execute this operation as you log on!


This typically happens after you upgrade to a new Efficy release.

The command About Efficy under the Tools menu of the Efficy user interface indicates the current version of your Efficy software and database.

A dialog shows the progress of the upgrade operation.


You have to log on again if the changes are to take effect!

Tip: you can handle the same task with an external tool – Database Structure Upgrade.

Default location: C:\Program Files\Efficy\11.3\UpgradeDb.exe where 11.3 represents the version you have.

Connect to the database and click the button Upgrade Database. Other than that, the tool works in the same way as Efficy Designer.

Warning: the database alias has to be created with the Alias, Customer and Guest Manager first, otherwise the tool Database Structure Upgrade won’t “see” the database.


Tip: you could even handle this alongside other tasks as you initialize your Efficy services with another external tool – Database Manager.

Default location: C:\Program Files\Efficy\11.3\Database Manager.exe where 11.3 represents the version you have.

Creating new databases

Creates a brand new database.

Refer to the topic Creating new databases for details.


When you create a database, a customer profile with the same name as the database alias is created automatically. Database aliases and customer profiles are managed with the Alias, Customer and Guest Manager.


Creating child databases

Enables you to create a child database.

A “child database” is a brand new database with the same structure as the original database and filled with all the data or a subset of the data.

Copying databases

Enables you to create an exact copy of your current database.

Such copying operations can migrate a database to another type of database server and copy the current structure of your database. For example, you migrate your CRM database from Microsoft SQL Server to Oracle or PostgreSQL.

License management

Manages the Efficy licenses.

Database settings and storage

Efficy Designer contains a user interface for the critical system tables SYS_SETTINGS and SYS_STORAGE which store a wide range of operational parameters that handle highly varied functionality.
